La Carta De Oaxaca
About This Spot
Stepping into La Carta De Oaxaca feels like finding a lively corner of Oaxaca itself nestled in the heart of Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. There’s an inviting warmth that greets you immediately, from the vibrant hues decorating the walls to the low hum of conversations shared over freshly made tortillas and cocktails stirred with care. It’s the kind of place where time slows just enough to savor the layers unfolding in every dish and sip, yet maintains a cheerful, bustling energy that invites connection.
The atmosphere strikes a balance between relaxed and spirited—a neighborhood stop where locals and visitors alike come to share in the rich textures of Oaxacan tradition. Whether sliding into a seat on the outdoor patio to catch the northwest breeze or settling inside surrounded by the subtle spice and sweet smoke that drift from the kitchen, the mood encourages both convivial chatter and quiet appreciation.
The menu at La Carta De Oaxaca is a thoughtful journey through regional flavors that never feel overdone or staged. Each dish appears crafted with an intuitive respect for simple, fresh ingredients that come alive through familiar, lovingly layered combinations—like the way tender lamb birria melts into warmth or how mole negro embraces the palate with its dark depth. Freshly pressed tortillas, guacamole with just the right hint of chipotle, and a carefully poured Michelada frame meals that invite sharing and discovery.
This is a space that carries the heart of Oaxaca not only through its food but also through genuine moments—friends laughing over tacos al pastor, families enjoying plates of posole on a cool evening, and the spirited clink of glasses raised in celebration. It’s a reminder that dining here is less about rush and more about ritual, a shared thread weaving together stories, flavors, and smiles.

This was better than any Mexican food I've ever had in Canada. The ingredients are fresh, simple, beautifully prepared, and presented. The best pa heart is the most experienced where all of the flavors combined to dance on your tongue to give you layer after layer of mouth bliss. The mole is dark and full flavouured. The corn tortillas are the thinnest I've had yet wouldn't tear. The service was warm and friendly, and the establishment itself is clean and efficient but still welcoming and cozy. If I'm ever in Seattle again, I will be back here.

By the shimmering threads of the culinary tapestry, La Carta de Oaxaca weaves a potent enchantment! The aromas that waft forth are nothing short of alchemical, transforming humble ingredients into dishes of pure magic. The very essence of Oaxaca seems captured within their walls, a palpable energy that warms the spirit. The ministrations of the servers were swift and knowing, as if guided by unseen forces. And the food! Each bite was a revelation, a journey into flavors both ancient and wondrous. Five stars, certainly, for this haven of earthly delights touched by something truly special.

Had dinner there Tuesday night and sat outside in their patio. Had a very nice time with the family. Service was great and the food was good.

It’s a great place! The food is so yummy even though the flavor is still a little different from what I had in Oaxaca, Mexico. Recommend to try the pozole, it’s so good! And they are generous, they give a lot of pork and hominy in the soup. Their tacos are the best!! Definitely try the Taco Al Pastor! Delicious! Their lunch menu and dinner menu are different. I’d love to try their lunch menu someday~

We have been coming to this amazing Mexican restaurant for years! Great food and great service. Today I had the pozole and the husband had the tacos al pastor and of course the chips w/ guacamole and salsa. They have an amazing salsa station so you can get as spicy and as much as you want!!

Good authentic Oaxacan food and great service. Prices are very reasonable. We had the Oaxacan pizza and lamb dish, they were both really delicious. Portions are big, especially the pizza. We paid around $25 per person. Parking could be challenging here. I highly recommend trying this restaurant if you like Mexican flavors.

I’ve been going here since I was little and never once have I had a bad experience with the staff, the food, allergy issues, seating or anything else you could dream of. I genuinely challenge you to find a bad item on the menu It gets a little loud sometimes when it’s packed but if you ask you can always be seated in the much quieter back or even outside in the summer. This is genuinely my favorite restaurant ever and I though I might as well give a review now that I’m moving away lol
